Don Pollock, professor of communications at the University of La Verne, will be attending the 2012 Alliance for Community Media Western Regional Conference in Sacramento on Saturday, October 20th to moderate a panel on ?Making the Case for Video in the Classroom,? and to present two papers.
Pollock?s first paper is titled ?Teaching Teachers to Use Video in the Classroom,? and focuses on his experience with teaching video production to teachers at the University of Hawaii Manoa and University of Hawaii Hilo.
In addition he will also be presenting ?Short form Story Telling,? which will cover principles he uses in the classroom to write and produce short dramatic and comedic videos.
Pollock?s students have received recognition for adopting his methods and techniques on writing and production. Last year?s student production, ?Party Foul,? won best entertainment video in the WAVE awards in 2011 and best screenplay in the Hometown awards in 2012.
Two short documentary video finalists, ?Pomona College Museum of Art? and ?Encaustic Tile,? are up for this year?s WAVE awards and were produced by two of Pollock?s students.
Earlier this year, short documentaries of four other students were selected to be screened at the 909 Film Festival, including ?Pets Ahoy,? ?Lumberjacked,? ?Claremont Folk Music Center,? and ?Pomona College Museum of Art.?
